Lars Neugebauer
Paradise, debris and ashes
The aim of the artists' residency is to discover the industrial heritage of Esch and Luxembourg and the urban socio-cultural places that were created there, through music, sound and performance, and to create new spaces of perception.
The sound characteristics and atmosphere of these places formerly used for industrial purposes will be reflected in the performances "Paradies, Schutt und Asche" and in the production of a vinyl record. They will be linked to new elements of urbanity, subversion and forms of adaptation.
The aim is to investigate the boundaries and transitions between music, sound and noise, and the spaces between them.
Another highlight of the residency is the exploration and performative integration of the unique, extreme and almost widespread use of roller shutters in Luxembourg.
Like eyelids, do they serve to protect and separate us from the outside world, or to transform the smallest flat into an urban fortress?
The residency is divided into two parts, each culminating in a concert or performance. The first part is devoted to research, making contacts, producing sound and video recordings and preparing the "Paradis, gravats et cendres" performance on 16 June 2024. The second part is devoted to pooling the recordings from Berlin and Luxembourg, finalising the LP, preparing the release date and the second part of the "Paradies, Schutt und Asche" performance.
