Julia Cottin
Born in 1981 in Chalon-sur-Saône (FR), Julia Cottin lives and works in Paris. She studied at the “Ecole supérieure d'art et design” in Saint-Etienne and at the “Art Institute of Chicago”. In parallel to her practice as a sculptor, the artist produces numerous graphic works (embossing, watercolours, gouaches, pigments on paper, mixed media). Developed around simple gestures inscribed in the tradition of the artistic genre (carving, cutting, assembling, stacking...) and operated on wood as the material of choice, Julia Cottin's sculpture finds its source of study in architecture, through its symbols (the column) and its archetypes (the war memorial).
During her residency at the Bridderhaus, Julia Cottin is immersed in the region and is developing new works that will be presented as part of her exhibition Forêt de Juma at the Konschthal Esch from 22.07 to 15.10.2023.
